Bullying is now recognised as a significant issue in the workplace with research showing considerable implications for both individuals and organisations. In Ireland the importance of addressing workplace bullying has been recognised by the Government, with the establishment of the Taskforce on the Prevention of Workplace Bullying in 1999, the establishment of the Expert Advisory Group on Workplace Bullying in 2004, and a recently commissioned survey by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, conducted by the ESRI which was published in March 2007.
